CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
BENZINE RISE. Minister To Be Asked To Investigate. The monthly meeting of the Siratford Chamber of Commerce was held lasit night. Present were: Messrs F. T. Hale (chairman), J. B. •Richards, W. J. Polson, M.P., Rex Watson, C. K. Scott (Postmaster), IL Bowie (S<ar tionmaster), and F. E. Clarke (tecrt’tary). Apologies were received from Messrs J. C. Allen, D. R. Melaean, L. .1. Rowell, and, M. S. Hughson. Mr Allen wrote drawing a tention to the recent increase of Jd in the price of petrol in Stratford, and after a short discussion it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Richards, that the desirability of an inquiry into the inr creased, price of petrol in Central Taranaki be urged on the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Hon. D. O. Sullivan. Mr M. G. C. McCaul, president of the Associalted Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand, wrote thanking the chamber for the very interesting meeting arranged on the occasion of his recent visit iv.'ith the secretary, Mr A. O. Heany. They appreciated the opportunity of meeting the members of the business 'and farming community of Stratford and discussing present-day problems with them. I Railway Trucks Shortage. j A protest against the shortage of railway trucks wa.s made by Mr Richards, who said that the position was very difficult indeed and was causing a lot of inconvenience. If the Government put the lorries off the road in order to help the railI.’.'ays, then the department) should give the necessary service. For a long time now it had been very dilficult to get consignments of superphosphate. Mr Bowie said that the shortage during the last few weeks was due to the large increase in slag shipmen s. The boats could not be delayed. A.n--o her point was that .there was a serious delay in discharging slag from the trucks.
