I I The Queen has invited six ladies to carry her train at the Coronation, j Hates the London Daily Telegraph. ,It is understood that they include ' Lady Iris Mountbatten, the 17-year-i old daughter of the Marquess of iCarisbrook; Lady Ursula Manners, I elder daughter of the Duke and I Duchess of Rutland, who is 20; Lady i Elizabeth Paget, second daughter of I the Marquess and Marchioness of Anglesey, who is also 20. Lady Ursula Manners is a keen rider to hounds. She had a narrow escape from drowning in '4935 'When her horse slipped from a bridge into a flooded ditch when she was out with the Belvoir. Lady Iris Mountbatten, who is a cousin of the King, was a bridesmaid to the Duchess of Kent. Queen Elizabeth is following the precedent set by Queen Mary, who had six ladies as train-bearers ait the Coronation in 1911. Queen Alexandra’s train 'Was carried by pages. The train-bearers, with the Mistress of the Robes, take a prominent part in one of the most impressive moments of the entire Coronation. After the Queen has been anointed and crowned she walks from the > Sacrarium towards the King’s Throne | and makes an obeisance before him. | As she does so the Mistress of the | Robes and the six train-bearers bow ■ with her and then range themselves behind the Queen as she takes her place on her Throne.
