I The Minister, promising to give close consideration to the matter, said that petrol selling was now a’ licensed industry and was thus pro; tected agaiiisit the absurd multiplioa ; lion of selling points which obtained during the past. Progress in carrying ou|t the plan involved by the | licensing of the industry had been delayed by a multitude of difilcultfes, but it was now close to fulfilment. Dealing witfi the subject of dairy factories as selling- points for petrol the Minister told tjie deputation that the dairy industry had- long been regarded as a depressed industry- and from time to time concessions had been made to it. That Was. why he exempted- dairy factories from Lhe j provisions of the price fixation. However, the deputation made out a good case and in approaching dairy factories had found that in the majority of cases the factories were agreeable to price fixation. In others they were indifferent as to jvh£t was done an<) tn others were definitely against it. Mr .Sullivan said that he thought he could see a solution of the problem by bringing dairy factories under, the price fixation provisions, but by a subsequent amendment to the law giving them freedom to allocate the profits, on petrol in such a way as they shall determine, either a,s . a direct benefit to supplier;, based On purchases of petrol, or by putting the profits to a general (trading account. .
