j PRICE FIXATION ASKED, i ! ’ j) Licensing of Industry. j Press Association —Copyright. ’ j Wanganui, April 11, i Two specific requests were made tto i the Minister of Industries and Com i ■meree, Hon. D. G. Sullivan, by denotations of petrol resellers of Taranaki, Wanganui, Rangitikei and Mauawalu on Saturday. l.t was asked that the Government apply price fixation to all petrel resellers, and secondly, that ovith the advent of such price Ixation dairy factories, which at prt'f.ent. are exempt, be included and ,‘xcppt. in very special'Circumstances no increase be made in selling poiis to dairy factories or similar co operative concerns.. I The Minister, promising to give close consideration to the matter, said that petrol selling was now a’ licensed industry and was thus pro; tected agaiiisit the absurd multiplioa ; lion of selling points which obtained during the past. Progress in carrying ou|t the plan involved by the | licensing of the industry had been delayed by a multitude of difilcultfes, but it was now close to fulfilment. Dealing witfi the subject of dairy factories as selling- points for petrol the Minister told tjie deputation that the dairy industry had- long been regarded as a depressed industry- and from time to time concessions had been made to it. That Was. why he exempted- dairy factories from Lhe j provisions of the price fixation. However, the deputation made out a good case and in approaching dairy factories had found that in the majority of cases the factories were agreeable to price fixation. In others they were indifferent as to jvh£t was done an<) tn others were definitely against it. Mr .Sullivan said that he thought he could see a solution of the problem by bringing dairy factories under, the price fixation provisions, but by a subsequent amendment to the law giving them freedom to allocate the profits, on petrol in such a way as they shall determine, either a,s . a direct benefit to supplier;, based On purchases of petrol, or by putting the profits to a general (trading account. .
