BELGIUM’S FUTURE

IMPORTANT BY-ELECTION FEVERISH PROPAGANDA Fascism Versus Democracy Press Association —Copyright. Received 11.20 a.m. Brussels, April 9. On the eve of tho Brussels by-elec-tion, which is expected vitally to idfluence Belgium’s filture, the Rexlats snd members of th<i Government are angaged in feverish last-minute propaganda. This is probably the first time that electors in any country have been invited to vote on a straight issue— Fascism versus Democracy. The Socialist Liberals solidly support M. Paul Van Zeeland, the Prime Minister, but the adherence of the Communists is embarrassing him, as it is feared it will lead many Cathode supporters to return blank papers. The flood of Rexist propaganda is overwhelming. Three times daily letters from the five Rexist newspapers are placed in the let-ter-boxes of every resident of Brussels, It is rumoured that M. Van Zeeland holds documents providing that Germany is financing this costly propaganda. A message from London states that the Morning Post’s special correspondent! interviewed M. Degrelle, who said: "The political parties are evil. 7 aid at abolishing them. There is no need for the Liberals, as Rexism will establish justice. We will treat ‘.he Communists like thieves. We have given therfT the change of reforming.”
