An intimation that the Government had in view legislation to eliminate slum areas under which i-t*would pay for the value of the land but not for Worthless buildings was given by Mr J. A. Lee, Parliamentary- under secretary in charge of hoffsing. in an address on the Government’s housing scheme to a large audience in the Town Hall to-night. Mr'Lee said that the happiness and well-being of the community depended on adequate housing, and the Government in its housing scheme had set out to achieve a welding of technical and political idealism. The fact had been appreciated that the Government would not always have to build railways and roads, but That it war? necessary to star’ a secondary atack on unemployment.
