The Labour Party so far is keenly divided on the Ministerial Salaries Bill, which includes a proposal to pay £2OOO per annum to the Leader of the Opposition. The Parfliamentary Labour Party agreed almost unanimously that the Leader of the Opposition should be given constitutional status with an allowance, the amount of which was not specified. Meanwhile there is a growing demand by all parties for an increase in the salaries of members of the House □f Commons to £5OO, and possibly to £650 per annum.
