SPANISH WAR
GERMAN PARTICIPATION. HOSTILITY OF PEOPLE Hitler’s Promise of Large Forces Opposed. Press Association —Copyright. Received 1 I M.m. London, April 6. The diplomatic correspondent of the Manchester Guardian says: “There is growing hostility in Germany towards participation in the Spanish war, which is constantly discussed in the bigger factories, where astonishingly successful secret subscriptions on behalf of the Spanish Government have been organised. “The middle class, which is the most discontented class in Germany, is also more hostile, while the Reichwehr officers regard events in Spain with increasing pessimism. “Highly-placed officers express satisfaction that the High Command opposed Herr Hitler’s request to send a larger force to implement his promise to the rebels—that Germany would dispatch 60,000 men. “The Army declared that it did not have 60,000 men for that purpose. Consequently, a compromise was arranged, resulting in Germany dispatching war material.” GERMAN CRUISER Signal to Insurgent Forces. Press Association —Copyright.
