AUCKLAND ACTIVITIES Government’s Programme. j Press Association —Copyright. Auckland, April 5. In order to inspect Auckland activities under 'tLj: '.national ,11'ous'ing scheme, Mr J. A. Lee, Parliamentary Under-Secretary 'to the Minister of Finance, arrived from Wellington today and visited the Orakei housing subdivision. To-morrow he w.ll inspect the Government joinery factory at Penrose. In the evening he will meet the Auckland building trade’s Housing committee, a body representing the unions, engaged in the building industry. AL the invitation of the Auckland labour representation committee, Mr Lee will address a public meeting in the Town Hall on Wednesday night upon fl'Jie overnment’s housing programme, which will be the flrs|t occasion on which Mr Lee hat spoken ffi public on the subject. He remarked to-day that to the present lie had been too busy getting on with the job to make specchs about it. It. v.'as expected tli!o|: the Fletcher Cont.truc/Lion Company would make a fairly early start wi h its contract at Orakei. “It ought*, to be remembered that we are not only concerned witt. solving the housing problem,” said Mr Lee. “We are tackling unemployment at the same .inie. British experience shows that there is. no tetter solvent.”
