SEA CAPTAIN’S FATE.
Steamer That Sank In Fog. Press Association—Copyright. Received 10.5 p.m. London, April 5. Escaping death two months ago in a collision which sank his ship, the Pine, at the mouth of Carlingford Lough, Ireland, Captain Campbell, with his wife and four of the crew, now lies encoffined in the sister ship Alder, only half a mile away. Destiny overtook him unawares, a cargo steamer colliding with the Aider as the latter anchored in a heavy fog, awaiting daybreak. The Alder sank so swiftly that no cry was heard from the victims, who were in their bunks asleep. Three men, comprising the deck watch, who were thrown into the sea, were picked up by the Lady Cavan. The disaster occurred a mile from Captain Campbell’s home, where his four children 1 were asleep.
