ENGINES DISABLED

STEAMER HOLMGLEN ADRIFT. Australian Cruiser to the Rescue. Press Association—Copyright. Wellington, April 3. Drifting aimlessly with her engines disabled, the coastal steamer Holmglen early this morning sought the aid of the combined Australian and New Zealand Squadron. The Australian cruiser Waterhen was despatched to her assistance and stood by for three hours while the Holmglen made for shelter. The Holmglen reached Queen Charlotte Sound under her own power and sheltered there. She was due to reach Wellington to-day. The first sign of distress was noticed by the fleet at one o’clock this morning. Flares were sighted, and Morse signals were picked up. The Holmglen had apparently been drifting with engine trouble since about 8 o’clock the previous morning.
