LABOUR LEGISLATION

PRESENT TENDENCY DANGEROUS METHODS IN DOMINION. Victorian Visitor’s Criticism. Press Association—Copyright. Wellington, March 30. An arrival by the Awatea today is the Hon. E. L. Kiernan, of the Victorian Legislative Council.

Mr. Kiernan stated in an interview that he thought further control and regulation of industries in New Zealand was inevitable. He did not think Parliament was competent to deal with these matters, and further legislation of a reform character would be required. The present tendency was for the appointment of boards and bureaucracies, but he thought that method of legislating just as dangerous as leaving it to the incompetent hand of Parliament. The only satisfactory method was the appointment of industrial boards representative of workers and employers, and including experts representing the State.
