Stratford Racings at New Plymouth Festival. The first annual festival of the New Plymouth Music, Elocution and Dancing Competitions Society was commenced on Saturday. Stratford competitors were placed as follows: Song for girls, 13 years and less than 16, own selection: Miss T. Cox, ‘‘The Second Minuette” 3. Baritone solo test, ‘‘The Sun God" in E Minor: Mr R. Anderson 3. Solo, under 12 years: Miss S. Feek “A Brown Bird Singing” 3. Sacred solo, Women: Miss M. Brown, “Gloria” 2. Recitation, girls 14 years and less than 16, test, “The Shell” (Tennyson): Miss A. Aitken 1. Recitation, girls 11 years land less than 14 years, test “Witchie Wood”: Miss J. Sullivan 3. Piano, 12 years and less than 14, test “Elfentant”: Miss K. Sisarich 2. Miss M. McNeil was also recalled. Operatic dsneing duo under 12 years: Misses J. and M. Rogers; “The Enchanted Lake” 2.

Tap, 12 yer rs and less than 16: Miss p. Jones 1, Miss D. Winmill 2, Miss T. Cox 3. MISS M. BROWN’S SONG BY NEW ZEALAND COMPOSER. At yesterday’s sessions, Miss M. Brown, singing “Summer Rain,” was first in the song by New Zealand composer. Mrs. E. Mcßeth, who chose the same song, was second, and Mr. R. Anderson, “Waiata Maori,” was third. Other results were: Piano duet, 11 and under 14 years: ‘Joan Sullivan and Kath Sisarich, “Military March,” 3. Seantriubhais, 12 and under 16 years: J. Dick 2. Sword dance, 12 and under 16 years: D. Winmill 2.
