CREW PICKED UP.

Explosion in American Freighter.

Press Association —Copyright. Received 11 a.m. Brisbane, March 27. A message received by the Sub-Col-lector of Customs at Townsville states that the American freighter Fijian, in which an explosion occurred, sank near Yaruto, a small island of the Marshall Group. The crew of 40 took to the boats and were picked up by the Shinko Maru. An earlier message had stated that the fire on the Fijian had been checked, and that the crew had returned to the ship.
