Fate of Abandoned Haiping. Press Association —Copyright. Received 1.50 p.m. Sydney, March 21. The finding of a considerable quantity of wreckage on the beach near Ballina is believed to have allayed fears that the steamer Haiping, which was abandoned about 70 miles off Sandy Cape, would be a menace to coastal shipping. The amount of wreckage suggests that the Haiping has completely broken up. The Haiping was abandoned in mountainous seas, and 31 of the crew, including the captain and his wife, were rescued. Rescue operations 'Were carried out by the Mildura. and/ occupied three hours.
