MARKET REPORT.

Sheep Market Still Remains Firm. The main feature of activities in the Tai'auitki livestock market uiiring the week has been the reuewiu -ciifidence displayed in regard to Hairy classes, state N.iw'oii King Ltd. in their report. Not only did the market for weaner Jereey belters en.'oy flee inquiry at values in advance of expectations, but trade with in-calf heif ers was of some consequence. There is a tendency for inquiry for these classes to increase, and while values are somewhat lower than earlier expected, most holders welcome the inquiry, and where good quality cattle are displayed, no difficulty is experienced in effecting sales. The competition that was displayed at the Inglewood Weaner Heifer Fair on Wednesday, where some 350 Jersey weaners Were dealt with, <1.7,p ’’ ed the idea that the demand for these had weakened. This was contrary to expectations and a very (Satisfactory clearance was effected. Sheep Values. Reasonably good inquiry continues to be encountered for the purchase of breeding ewes and values tor the entries of mostly aged classes that lire being dealt with at most of our talc centres are firm at late rates, the earlier receding having been arrested. The fat-theep section also enjoys a firm market and despite the receuing in works schedule tor fats, no alteration in quotations for local consumption has taken effect.

In the pig section anything other than good-conditioned stores continued to be difficult to sell. At the New Plymouth haymarket sale on Friday a full yarding was penned, and only large stores met good competition. Slips and weaners Were dull of sale and prices showed a receding on last week’s rates; however, practically a total clearance was effected at the following prices:—Porkers .to 36/-. light baconcrs £2 6s, good-condllibii-ed stores 26/- to 27/-, smaller sorts 21/6 to 22/6, small 16/-, slips 12/6 to 14/-, good weaners 6/- to 7/6, others 1/6 to 4/-.
