FLAX INDUSTRY

Establishment in Hawke’s Bay Suggested. Press Association —Copyright. Hastings, March 10. It is likely that the Poukawa Lake district will 'be the tcene of a Ministerial inspection by the Minister ot Lands, Hon. F. Langstone, about March 21, according to Mr E. L. Cullen. M.P., who stated that the district held 12,000 acres that could well be employed in the growing of flax. “I am hopeful of persuading the Minister to agree to inspect the area upon his return from Wairoa,” said Mr Cullen. “I have already vis’ted the area in question and the proposition. appealed to me greatly.”

Mr Cullen added that if the Government could be interested to the extent of granting a subsidy or some other measure of assistance the establishment of the flax-growing industry in Hav'kes Bay would give a wonderful fillip to Maori employment.
