A collision between a goods train travelling to Wellington and a light car driven by Mr Samuel Howell, of Levin, occurred to-night. The car v,as turned over several times, but the occupant escaped with bruises only. The accident occurred at th” Queen Street intersection.
The driver of the train noticed the car about two train lengths away and applied the emergency brffkes, which lessened the impact. The car was hit in the middle.

The results' are conclusive; in 20 years,. general mortality has diminished by 75 per cent, and the expectation of life has been prolonged by 15 years.
