NAZI COUP IN HUNGARY
ORGANISED PUTSCH.
EARLY FRUSTRATION
Plan Included March On Budapest.
Press Association —Copyright. Vienna, March 7. The Austrian public is greatly perturbed by reports of an intended Hungarian Nazi coup d’etat, which the Prime Minister, Dr. K. Daranyi, frustrated by the most energetic measures after the revelation of a plot by oppos'on leaders, who produced pamphlets circulated among peasants emphasising the necessity tor replacing the Daranyi Government by a pro-German pro-Nazi regime. Among the various advantages promised the peasants was total remission of debts.
Newspapers give lengthy details of preparations for the putsch, including a march on Budapest of landless workers and students on March 8 led by M. Bela Marton, a friend of the late President, Dr. Gosbos, to proclaim the dictatorship of Hungary which Dr. Gombos on his death-bed refused. Dr. Daranyi's moderation on coming into power angered M. MaYton, who resigned the secretaryship of the Government party and thereafter combined with extremists and army officers and planned the coup. It is understood that Dr. Daranyi has proofs that German money reached the conspirators through Herr Hahn, and that the German diplomatic mail-bag was used to smuggle Nazi leaflets to Budapest. It is also alleged that among the intriguers is the head of a semi-official co-operative society, who stored arms and munitions.
