England’s keen interest in the Australian lawn tennis stars, Bromwich and Quist, is largely responsible for creating- a new record in applications for this year’s Wimbledon championships, which begin on June 21. ' At least £115,000 will have to he returned to applicants who have been unsuccessful in the annual ballot for centre court reserved seats. The actual seating round the centre court is 12,000, hut with Handing room, 15,000 spectators can view the play with comfort. The tournament this year will be more attractive than ever. Apart from Bromwich and Quist, competitors will include Donald Budge, the American; aged 22; G. von Cramm, the German champion, as well as Austin, the talented young French players, and a strong Japanese team.
