ROUSING RECEPTION
Lord Nuffield Attends Rotary Conference.
Press Association—Copyright. Wellington, To-day. A rousing reception was given Lord Nuffield when, at the invitation of the District Governor, Mr. W. Thomas. he visited the Rotary conference j m Wellington yesterday l . The dis- j tinguished visitor was greeted with I prolonged applause and as he took his j -seat on the platform the assembly sang “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow. 11 Lord Nuffield, in a brief speech said: “I must first of all thank your Governor most sincerely for his kind invitation to attend this 1 conference, but it was impossible to accept it. My time is so taken up, and I have to leave for Christchurch this afternoon; otherwise it would have given me great pleasure. I just vlant to assure yoii that I appreciate your efforts most sincerely—that is to say. Rotary all over the world is trying to get together to help humanity in general. ‘II want to say also that I, in my way, will promise to do in the future all I can to those ends, as I have tried to do in the past. As you may have noticed, I have taken at any rate a particular line on crippled children for the reason I think that those unfortunate children born into the country under such conditions should at lease have our best consideration, and anything I can do in the future to help them will be my greatest pleasure. I thank you. once again, ladies and gentlemen, for your kind recep tiort. My only regret is that I cannot stay with you longer."
