•The resignation of Mr. Rex Watson aw secretary of the Central Taranaki School Committees Association, was received wfth regret at the annual meting held this afternoon, and the valuable services rendered; by MV. Watson to the Association was placed on record.

Mr. J. Cooper, a former pupil of the New Plymouth Boys’ High School, and son of Mr and Mrs R. L. Cooper, New Plymouth, has been awarded the New Zealand Railways departmental scholarship for this year. Mr Cooper is a fitter-turner apprentice at the Lower Hutt workshops.

Mr. S. G. Holland, National Party member for Christchurch North, who speaks at the King’s Theatre on Tues/day night, increased the National vote in his constituency by 650. He v.'as the only National candidate to score over 6000 votes. Among the public positions, which he has held—vicepresident of the Chamber of/ Commerce, president of the Employers Association, and delegate to the Empire Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Holland had the distinction of leading several debates for tHe opposition in his first session—an unusual distinction. He has travelled in America. Canada, Australia and England, and had two years’ w*ar service.
