AUTUMN SHOW.

PROGRESS REPORTED. Axemen’s Events Creating Great Interest. The general committee of the Stratford Agricultural and Pastoral Association met this afternoon, Mr A. H. R. Amess presiding. In connection with the Autumn Show, the executive reported: “Preparations are now well in hand and the respective chairmen of all sections are now busy finalising their individual sectional work. Entries definitely close on Thursday. March 4. We have just a week prior to closing of same. ■ Eeverything points to a record show. The last autumn show was held in rather a bad year, February 19 and 20, 1919. The following were the number of stock entries recorded:—Horses. 339; cattle, 409; sheep, 83; pigs, 29; total, 860. At our November show the following stock exhibits were received:— K Horses, 369; cattle. 390; sheep, 134; 1 pigs, 370. Total, 1263. However, it is almost impossible to draw comparisons between these two shows, as conditions in every respect have altered considerably. The axemen’s events are creating great interest, and with prospects of large competition, it has been decided to hold the maiden chop on. the first day and the two open chops on people’s day. The following is a list of the judges appointed:— Cattle: Pedigree Jersey, Mr. Allan Horn, Ohan; pedigree Ayrshire, Mr. G. A. Colpman, Palmerston North; pedigree milking Shorthorns, Mr J. H. Mason, Feilding; pedigree Friesiaas, Mr A. Burgess, Rongotea: grade and crossbred, Mr. C. H. Clemow, Stratford; heavy horses, Mr A. Alexander, New Plymouth; light horses, Mr S. G. Mcßae, Patea;; trotting events, Mr D. J. Malone, Stratford. Pigs: Berkshire and Tamworths, Mr J. D. Pearee, Mangorei; large black and whites, Mr C. S. Mexted, Gordonton; baconers and porkers, Mr F. Mr. Amess stressed the fact that there was not likely to be such a wide entry in the cattle section as in the spring show, where a number Of big breeders covered the circuit. However, if Taranaki breeders gave their support, competition would be keen

and interesting. The president also mentioned that it had been decided to again have a loud-speaker, which had been offered on generous terms by Messrs Burgess and Clarke.

Mr. L. Johns and Mr. D. Thacker, of Ngaere, were elected new members
