STRATFORD UNTOUCHED
Effects of Heavy Rain. The Stratford County area, which usually suffers, heavily from heavy rain, has so far escaped almost entirely from the effects of the drenching rain of the last few days. The flooding at Uriti, which last night blocked the north road from New Plymouth, and the small slips on the eastern line which were evidenced by the muddy condition of the trains arriving at Stratford this morning, find no counterpart near Stratford, although the streams are running very high. Apparently the town area of Stratford is near the edge of the heavy rain. There has been comparatively title rain in South Taranaki and at Mahoe it was only yesterday that the rain became at all heavy. A Mahoe farmer told the “Central Press” that on Tuesday he was working on his farm “in his shirt sleeves.” At midday to-day the Stratford County engineer, Mr. J. W. Spence, stated that no danjage had been reported in the county area.
