"The Novel Magazine,” (C. Arthur Pearson, Ltd. London)—our copy from Messrs Gordon and Gotch, Ltd., per Mr Rex Watson, Broadway, Stratford. This Christmas number Is wonderful value for the short-story lover. "The Four Christmas Cards.” by W. J. Makin, is a story of murder, of hate, and of a woman who was unfaithful —to the end. It carries the reader breathless over the Dartmoor marshland® in search of a convict who had escaped from Dartmoor Prison, where he was l serving a life sentence for murder. “Wishing you and yours a very happy Christmas” is the text of four Xmas cards received by the prisoner, which conveys secret instructions' on how to escape. The intriguing part of the story is the fact that his wife, who sent the Xmas greetings, informs the prison governor of the plot The climax is told in the author’s most dramatic style. Eight of the complete stories in this number include “The Case For The Emrll Ring” (Evadue Price), Murder With Care” (Frederick J. Lyons), “Mystery in the Queen Mary” (Dale Collins), and “Iffiby Want To Be Happy” (Mary Edginton). The first section of the great romantic novel “Women Also Dream” by Ethel Mannin. leaves one wondering if Janet Forrest marries Richard Daln. and eagerly anticipating the receipt of the January number of thd novel magazine with the completion of the romance.
