TORTURING PRISONERS
Japanese Deny 111-treating British Sailors. Press Association —Copyright. Received 11.30 a.m. Tokio, February 22. Replying to interpellations accusing the Japanese police of torturing prisoners in order to extract confessions, and in which the maltreatment of the British sailors last November was emphasised, Mr. Horinouchi, Assistant Foreign Minister, announced that after a full enquiry the Government found no evidence that the British sailors were ill-treated. He added thgt Uhe Government was attempting an amicable settlement of the dispute with Britain.
