DOG ATTACKS CHILD. A 14-monhs-old child, Rex Cadman, sen of Mr and Mrs R. Cadman, Tain •a, was attacked by a cattle-dog belonging to his uncle, being severely bitten in the face. He .was admitte I to the Stratford Hospital and his co edition this morning is reported to be satisfactory.

SUNDAY TRAIN PATRONAGE. The excursion train to New Plymouth yesterday was well patronised, the fine warm weather attracting people to the beaches. At Stratford 127 passengers joined the train. Another train through Stratford yesterday carried excursionists from Ohakune to Opunake.

TANGARAKAU GORGE ROAD. An Ohura visitor to Stratford at the week-end reports that with the dry weather the Tangarakau Gorge road is now in excellent order for motor traffic. Fern and scrub has been cut back on the roadside and worn patches on the road attended to.

HOME LETTER BOXES. A good response has been received to an appeal recently made by the Postal Department to Stratford householders asking that where residences are situated back from the street frontage a letter box should be placed at the street line for receipt of correspondence. Some areas have yet to be circularis'd and it is. expected that when boxes have been rec ted where required a consider-

able saving in the postman’s time will result.
