Marked Revival Last Year In New Zealand.

The number of motor-vehicles licensed as at December 31, 1936, was 241,915, as compared with 216,905 at the end of 1935, 200.577 on the same date in 1934, and 188.984 in 1933. Last year has witnessed a marked revival in road usage, reports the Government statistician. There were 30,264 motor-vehicles imported in 1936, as compared with 29,842 in 1935. Imports of motor-spirit afford a good indication of road usage, subject to the qualification that with tile increasing proportion of up-to-date models on the roads, the movement in the statistics of imports of motor spirit would tend to understate the extent of the increase in road usage. During 1936 86,423,750 gallons of motor spirit were imported, an increase of 35.2 per cent, over the total in 1935,
