Y. AND Z. ROAD SIGNS.

Automobile Association’s Proposals To Council

In connection with the new motor regulations, the secretary and inspector of the South Taranaki Automobile Association recently waited on the borough inspector (Mr A’. E. Sayers) regarding the Y and Z road signs, and stated that the Government had accepted the association’s offer of 1000 signs. It was the desire of the association to consult the Council on the matter of placing these signs, and suggest that they be not fixed at the borough boundaries but at the following places' instead:—Broadway South at Romeo Street; Broadway North at Craig Street; Opunake Road, at Hamlet Street; Pembroke Road, at Hamlet Street; East Road, at Swansea Road.

The reason given for the change, stated Mr Sayers, in his report to the Council last night, was that beyond these sites there was no built-up area. This means, he added, if the Council grants these places for the Y and Z signs, that between these roads 1 and the borough boundary, an unlimited speed limit, will be given, or two different speeds within the borough—under 30 m.p.h in one part, and any speed in the other part.
