The Council And The Town Hall
That the crltleiem offered by the "Central Press” on the deficiences of the Stratford Town Hall has been of some interest to Borough Councillors wag apparent last night when the Mayor in referring to booking charges, mentioned the desire of certain sections for a new civic building, if the ratepayers were prepared to foot a cost of £lOOO a year, then the Council would gladly provide a suitable building and an up-to-date Town Hall and theatre.
Cr. W. P, Gordon asked whether the revenue derived from the sale of certain borough sections -and placed in a special fund could not be used for, building a new Town Hail?
The Mayor: We’ve spent all that.
Cr, A. H. Trotter: The ratepayers might appreciate the ebst of £lOOO a year better if we gave It to them in terms of rates. It would amount to approximately Id in the £l.
The Mayor: The exact amount can be found out by the report, era from the Town Clerk. In any case a new site for a decent Town Hall would have to bo purchased.
Cr. C. Speck: If the railway station were moved, then the preeent site would bo an excellent one.
The entry of a deputation ended the Interlude.
