KAHOURI STREAM BRIDGE. The Borough Council resolved at last night’s meeting to a.sk the Main Highways Board to erect a new ullage over the Kahouri stream on the Mountain Road near the abat'oirt. It was pointed out by Cr. C. Speck that heavy traffic had to be inverted around Beaconsfield Road.
PICNICS IN PARK. Th Stratford branch of the Moth ers’ Union will hold a picnic in King Edward Park on Thursday and on Sunday the Druids Lodge v.ll hold
i s annual picnic. Formal permission io use the park was granted by the Domain Board at last night’s meeting.
HOUSING SURVEY. In view of the expense of a com plete survey, local bodies were urged o select the area most urg ntly needing attention and apply for consent or a survey of a "defined area" only, stated a communication from the Municipal Association before last night's Council meeting. The Coun:l d c Jed to make application for permission to survey Juliet, Orlando, Ariel and Cordelia Street to Pembroke Road. DOWN-PIPES FROM BUILDINGS. Storm water raised a minor storm at last night's Borough Council meeting. The Works Committee r. ported dial Me. sis Dullill and’Gibson. architects. be advised that the Council is willing to accept £5 per annum rent for the privilege of allowing the down-pipes from the n w Farmers’ Co-op. building to extend over the footpaths in Regan ami Miranda Streets. Cr. T. Lawson, with a view to prohibiting the use of down-pipes on the streets, moved that the clause be deleted, for other buildings in the town had adopted the same practice. It was necessary, however, that in future down-pipes must be carried within the buildings. The Mayor explained that the charge was suggested as the price for the privilege allowed. Actually the pipes should be inside the building. It was agreed to delete the clause, but outside rlown-pip s will not be allowed in the future.
HOSPITAL RADIO COMPLETED. The radio installation was completed early in the month, stated Dr. W. Brown, medical superintendent of the Stratford Hospital, in his report to to-day’s meeting of the Board. JUDGING MEAT. . .“The only place I can judge meat is v’h’en it is an the table.” remarked the Mayor, Mr J. W. McMillan, at last n’ght’s meeting of the Borough Council when some criticism was made regarding the quality of meat killed at the..abattoirs. COUNTY RATES. Stratford County Council rate collection fully reflects the greater freedom of money that is being experienced this year. The total of £6205 2s 3d that has so far been collected exceeds that collected at the corresponding day last year by more than £1753. Of a total levy of £19,618 4s 3d, there is £3412 15s still owing. INFERIORITY COMPLEX. “Just what is this infer’ority complex?” asked the Mayor, Mr J. W. McMillan, in the course of a discussion at the Borough Council meeting last night. Cr. A. H.
