MR. A. THORNE’S DEATH. Fatal Sequel To Car Accident At Tokirima. Serious spinal injuries received by Mr A. Thorne, Stratford, branch manager for Messrs Newton King Ltd., when his car plunged over a 300-foot bank near Tokirima on Friday evening resulted in his death in the Taumarunui hospital last night. Although gravely injured there were hopes for Mr Thorne's? recovery unti? he suddenly collapsed shortly before 10.30 o’clock last night. Born in England, Mr Thorne was on the English staff of the dairy produce Orin of Messrs R. and W. Davidson Ltd., and about 25 years ago he came to New Zealand as agent for the firm. He entered into business as a land and estate agent at Levin and was interested in farming. His wide J kowledge of the dairy produce mar- ’ ket was availed of in the dairy season each year by Messrs Newton King Ltd., and about 10 years ago he was appointed shipping and dali-y produce manager fof the firm at New Plymouth. Later he joined the board of directors. In October last he came to Stratford as branch manager. Mr Thorne was' a keen golfer and was a member of the New Plymouth Golf Club. He is survived by his widow, a son, Mr Tony Thorne, of the New Ply. mouth Borough Council staff, and a daughter. Miss' Monica Thorne.
