BOWLING TOURNEY.

STRATFORD CLUB. Twenty-six Rinks Will Play To-morrow. The weather appears to be set fine for the one-day tournament on the Stratford Bowling Club’s greens tomorrow, play commnciug at 8.45. Twenty-six teams have been nominated, and they will occupy the thirteen rinks on the two greens. Representatives of the following ten clubs in Taranaki will be engaged: I’aritutu, West End, Fitzroy, New- Plyouth, Hawera, Tariki, Hawera Park, Manaia, Avon, Sratford and Leppertou.

The main green looks a picture in Its setting of shrubs and flower beds, with petunias, marigolds and dahlias in full bloom. The playing areas on both greens are in splendid order, and are a credit to the green warden (Mr W. Harris), and the caretaker (Mr T. Lawson). Players should have no cause for complaint on the grounds that file greens are not playing trua and fast. The draw for the first round Is; Smith v. Douglass, Mason v. Lonsdale, Smart v. Amess, Andrews v. Blundell, Somerton v. Coe, Davis v. Skoglund, Tunnicliff v. Brett, Boulton v. Clark, Black v. Lawson, Rumball v. Bull, Williams v. Newton, Murray v. Harvey, Pobrica v. Weston. Progressive Pairs. Twenty-eight players took part in a progressive pairs tournament on the Stratford green at the week-end, and there were some keen contests for honours. The winning skip was P. Coe and J. Sullivan was runner-up. Both scored four wins out of five, the result being decided on the aggregate points. In the leads section, J. Heggie won outright with the possible wins (5), while W. J. Aitken and M. Peek were the runners-up with four wins each. Diggers Tournament. The annual Diggers tournament will be held on the Stratford and Avon greens on February 21. Much interest is centred in this tourney, and included in the teams will be two rinks from Wanganui. The handsome shield, which was presented for competition among the diggers of Taranaki, was presented by the Stra.cford (staminet owners, Messrs Kirkwood Bros., R. Wood, A. D. Jury and W. Pellett. Last year it was won by the following Stratford rink:—D. R. Turnbull, J. J. Sullivan, A. H. Hillock, P. Coe (skip). It is understood that the holders will defend the title this year. Nominations close with Mr W. Ewing on Wednesday, 17th inst. A Frie-ndly Visit. Nominations are being received by the Stratford Club secretary (Mr W. McDonald) for a team to make the usual friendly visit to the Opunake Club on a suitable week-end date.
