! Charge Against Park Board Ranger. I I A charge or carrying a pistol at [ York Road, Midhirst, on October 10, | beyond the limits of his dwelling, | was preferred againet Norman Parau Gibson, ranger to the Egmont NaI tional Park Board, in the New Ply- | mouth Police Court yesterday. He was further charged with carrying an unlawful weapon. A technical plea of guilty was entered by Mr Grayling, counsel for Gibson, and the caee was adjourned until next Monday in order to clear up points raised by the Magistrate (Mr W. 11. Woodward, S.M.) When interviewed by the police at Stratford on October 10, an automatic pistol was found lying on the seat of Gibson’s lorry, stated SeniorSergeant E. T. C. Turner. Defend ant stated that he used the pistol on the mountain for shooting goats and wild cattle. Previously he had been told by the arms officer at New Plymouth that he could not have a per- | mit and that it was unlawful to have j ammunition. Gibson nevertheless i secured amunition. j Mr. Grayling said the Park Board i intended to see if permission could j be given as the pistol was most suit- : able for carrying in the reserve. The ! p : stol had been taken among other ! German souvenirs from the battle--1 field and he asked that it should uot I be confiscated.
