Baird System Discontinued In England.
Press Association —Copyright. Received 12.15 p.m. London, Feb. 5.
.TUe eugpetted standardteatnon of the, television system means that there will be no further transmissions by the Baird system from Alexandra Palace, and that the Marconi Emi system alone will be employed. Mr. James L. Baird told the NewsChronicle that his experiments would not be affected by this decision which was taken in the interests of economy.
Baird shares have fallen and Emi shares risen sharply. Bajrd Television Limited has issued a statement that it is assured that the decision of discontinuing the uee of its apparatus does not mean the_setting up of a monopolistic situation, and it cannot be too strongly emphasised that the adoption of a single standard does not mean the adoption Of any particular tystem. The decision in no way diminishes the commercial prospects or limits the trading policy of the comPaMR which is also continuing its work in large-tcreen cinema television and in military and other non-entertainment aspects.
