CAR OVER CLIFF.
DAZZLING SUNSHINE. Serious Accident On Tokirima Road. Serious Injuries were sustained by Mr. Albert Tborne, Straitford branch manager lor Measra. Newton King, Ltd., when his car plunged over a 300-foot cliff on the Taumarunui-Toklrima road about 7 o'clock last nltfht. He was returning to Stratford from the Tokirima sheep fair In Company with Mr.,Truby King, managing director of the firm, and. When negotiating a,corner on the steep winding road, he was dazzled by the sun, and the car left the road, Mr. King escaped with shock and abrasions.
The accident’ happened on a steep hill near Mr. H. F. •'McKenzie’s farm.
Scrambling down to the bottom Of the gorge rescuers from a cw following close behind, found that Mr. Thorne was so severely injured that it wat impossible to remove him from the wreckage until the arrival of the ambulance from Taumarunui. Settlers assisted in the dlfficul task of getting Mr. Thome back to the road, but it was-nearly.' five hours at£er the crash that be was admitted to th* Taumarunui hospital. An xfray examination this mortis ing disclosed that Mr. Thorne had suffered serious spinal injuries. A report received in Stratford totday stated that Mr. Thorne was contcloud and was comfortable. The car, which was badly smashed, somersaulted several timer.
