Subsidies Continued Under New Act. Press Association—Copyright. Rugby, February 1. The House of Commons to-day agreed to the second reading of the Merchant Shipping Bill, the objects 'of which are to impose penalties for allowing a ship to go to sea with the load line submerged, and to bring fulling boats within the scope of the Board of Trade Regulation for safety appliances. The House later approved financial resolution extending by 12 months the period in respect (o which subsidies are payable under the British (Shipping Assistance Act, 193(j, as amended by the Subsidy Act last year, and making provision for the payment of up to the aggregate sum of £2,000,000 to defray the cost of subsidies in respedt to tramp voyages carried out during 1937.
