GIGANTIC EMPIRE SCHEME
LOAN FOR MIGRATION. HUNDRED MILLIONS Future Of Empire Will Depend On Conference. Press Association—Copyright. Received 11 a.m. London, January 31. Whitehall 13 considering a gigantic Coronation Year scheme for the Empire, including a loan of £100,000,000 embracing Empire migration. Diplomatic circles believe that the future of the Empire will depend on the next Imperial Conference, at which the scheme will be enunciated. An expert on Imperial affairs says that Britain must pave the way with gold. Then the Empire can be opened up as it should. Mr. Ramsay MacDonald is said to have declared that unless we develop the Empire, someone else will. Against this, the forecast is certainly for an Increase in income tax for defence expansion. A loan in addition, for this purpose, is also talked of.
