Post Office Shows Increase In Deposits.

A review of post office savings bank business for the year January 1 to December 31, 1936, shows the. total deposits to be £28,564,310, as against £24,972,362 for the calendar year, 1935, said the Postmaster-Gen-eral, the Hon. F. Jones, on Saturday. “The excess of deposits over withdrawals in the last calendar year amounted to £2,685,569, compared with £1,822,017 tor 1935,” said Mr Jones. “The interest credited to depositors on March 31 last amounted to £1,406,459.” The Minister added that the amount standing at the credit of depositors on December 31 last was £54,900,000, as compared with £50,800,000 on December 31, i 935. This represents an increase for last year of approximately £4,100,000.
