Avon Rink Narrowly Defeated. (From Our Own Reporter.) An Avon Club rink, skipped by A. Dickinson, was the only team from Stratford to qualify for post section play in the rinks competition of the Taranaki Bowling Centre tournament at New Plymouth. The rink was defeated this morning by Christophel (West End) in an interesting and closely-fought game. Dickinson drew ahead at the start, but was unable to withstand the perfect form produced by the New Plymouth rink in the latter stages of the game. As play Is on the automatic two-life system, Dickinson’s rink still has a chance of victory. Results of the first round of postsection play are:— Christophel 18, Dickinson 13. Sturdle 25,Lobb 15. Goodwin 21, Douglas 18. Tiplady 19, Andrews 16. In the consolation pairs sections C and D have completed two rounds of play. Simpson, McClaren, Erceg and Julian have two wins, and Turnbull, Higgs, Rumble, Smith, Simmonds, Canning, McCrdne and Bartlett have one win.
