TARANAKI MEETING Progress Of Stratford Rinks Competing. The strong wind which hampered play in the Taranaki Bowling Centre tournament at New Plymouth during the morning yesterday died away after mid-day and in the afternoon conditions were perfect. Dickinson had led all the way to beat Bartlett in the fifth round, but in the sixth met Iris match in Chrisoffel, who took the lead by scoring 15 points to Dickinson’s 6 on the first eleven heads. A series of singles allowed Dickinson to reduce the margin to 17—11. In two heads he added 4, but Christoff el, with a single on the iast head maintained his lead to win
the match. , Harris (Stratford) had a great tus'isle in the morning when a two on the I last head gave him the win. In the ! fifth round he had an easy task, beat- | ing Newell 38—11, but in the sixth ■ against Black he had to stage a good recovery to take the match after a < close fight. He started with a rush, scoring 6 on the second head and , leading 11—-3 at the sixth. Black • then took a turn, and including a five land a three led 17—13 at the 14th. • Harris steadily added points on the last four heads to win 21 —19. : Although defeating Simonds, Williams had little trouble from the be--1 ginning but he had to fight to get ! ahead of Thomson after being down . 10—3. He succeeded well to win by I 21—16.
Blundell was. in front of Weston (Avon) all the way in the morning and in the sixth round Weston scored on only 5 of the 20 heads played, to.lose to Gooding, 31 —10. However, he kept the undefeated Andrews on lhe hop, as he held the lead until Two heads from the finish. At the seventh head Andrews, who led 9—5, was overhauled by Weston, who found a four most useful, and the score was U —9 in his favour at the 10th head. Andrews led at the 12th and evened at the 14th. The 18th ■was the crucial head of the match. At that stage Weston was one. up but he gave his opponents the shot and Andrews added two more, then three more on the next head and finished 5 to the good.
To-day’s Play at New Plymouth. (From Our Own Reporter). The third days section play was continued to-day in ideal summer weather. Dickinson (Avon), who has won 5 and lost 2 games, must win both games this afternoon to enter postsection play. . This morning he had a slight lead all the way with Johnson fighting to keep up. Harris (Stratford) started evenly against Burton and led 10—4, but Burton gradually caught up and passed him on the second to last head. Williams (Stratford) with 5 wins and 2 losses has a chance to enter post-section play. Weston (Avon) had a thrilling fight against Julian, who won at the last head.
