Manawatu Plays Wairarapa At Palmerston. Press Association —Copyright. Palmerston N.» Last Night. Fortunes fluctuated in the Hawke Cup challenge match between Wairarapa and M-anawatu on Friday. The latter, from six wickets for 77 at lunch, carried their score to 179. 1 Wairarapa made a disastrous start, losing five wickets for 11 runs. Nine wickets were down ’for 52, but the last pair put on 55, the total being 107. With Manawatu 72 runs ahead of Wairarapa on the first innings the match was resumed yesterday in fine but very breezy weather. Manawatu, who were batting, occupied the crease for most of the day, knocking up 395 for nine wickets declared, against steady bowling and keen fielding. Features of the day were the magnificent innings by Moloney, who scored 194 in 213 minutes, and that of Cutler, who made 76, the pair adding the third wicket. At stumps Wairarapa had lost one wicket for three runs.
