POSSIBLE TRADE PACT
BRITAIN AND, U.S.A. MR. RUNCIMAN’S VISIT. Politico-Economic Conference Expected. Press Association—Copyright. Washington, Jan. 21. A strong belief prevails at Washington that a politico-economic conference between the British Empire and the. United States is in the making. It is emphasised that questions of purely English interest are not the sole subject matter, for two reasons. The. first is that foreign policy is vitally concerned and on this the Dominions must be consulted. The second is that the United States would prefer to dispose at the same time of numerous trade problems pending , in various parts of the Empire, notably with Australia. Despite general denials it is considered inevitable that Mr. Waiter Runciman, President of the British Board of Trade, and President Roosevelt will hold discussions during the week-end which will lay the groundwork for a conference. Mr. Runciman will arrive to-morrow for hlncheon as a guest at the White House on Saturday. Mr. Key Pittman, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee will attend.
