Review Of Weekly Auction Sale. A large assortment of furniture came under the hammer at Messrs. Newton King Ltd.’s weekly auction sale yesterday and was disposed of at satisfactory prices. There was a shortage of fruit and vegetables and prices ruled accordingly. White Leghorn pullets were * in demand, fetching up to 6/3. Following, is the range of prices: Poultry: Hens from 1/1 to 2/6; cockerels, 6d to 1/6; roosters, up to 2/5; young drakes, 1/3 to 1/6; ducklings up to 3/-; pullets, 4/7 to 6/3. Vegetables: Cabbages, 5/- a sack; onions, 5/6 to 6/3; local grown potatoes, 5/- a sugar sack; Pukekohf, 4/6. Fruit: Dessert apples, 4/6 to 5/6 for halfbushel case; cookers, 3/6 to 4/-; plums, 5/6 to 9/-; nectarines, 8/6 to 9/6; peaches, 8/6 to 9/6; dessert pears, 4/6 to 5/6; cookers, 4/6; tomatoes, 3/6 to 5/6 half case. A SCOTTISH CELEBRATION. Monday next, January 25, brings the memories of all Scotsmen to the 178th anniversary of the birth of their great poet, Robert Burns. There are few Scots who will not honour their baird’s memory and the Taranaki Provincial Scottish Society (Inc.) has made special efforts for this year’s tribute. As New Plymouth celebrates the annual “Burns Nicht” on Monday, the Stratford celebration has been fixed for Tuesday next at the Parish Hall when Burns will be honoured in traditional style. A special programme has been arranged and an advertisement on page 1 to-day, gives full details.
