Scratchings so far to hand for Wellington are: Viking for all engagements. Landing and Jolly from Wellington Stakes. Screamer for all engagements. Roaming and Lofty for all engagements. • • • Top Row, who has accepted in. the Fitzhenbert Handicap on the opening day at Trentham, is not eligible to start in that race, as he has won £l5O in stakes. The opinion of Riccarton trackwatchers is that Argentic is a. better horse now than at any time of his career. The favourite for the Welling- I ton Cup, Floodtide, continues to I do great work at Trentham and f impresses track-watchers by •’ determined way he jumps into his I work and his bulldog finishes. Those who saw him at Auckland seem to think he has lightened up a little, but he is very bright and muscular in appearance. Boomerang went well over seven furlongs the other morning in company with Cuddle. The track was fairly soft, and more suitable to Boomerang. Fersen was out on the tracks doing slow pace-work. His trainer, H. Gray, was aboard, and Fersen showed himself a very fit horse. A very fit horse at present is Land Raid, who acquittied himself very favourably over four furlongs on Saturday morning. He will be ridden by S. Anderson at Trentham. Corroboree is in great heartJor his
Wellington engagements, and his main objective is the Douro Cup on the third day. Sergia will be worth more than a casual glance at the Thames meeting this week. This horse is bowling along very freely in her work, and don’t forget she was narrowly beaten by Essex at Ellerslie. Racewhip should be hard if started at Thames. Readers will remember that he ran second to Rua King at Stratford both days. • • • It is interesting to note that although Laughing Lass has only won three times this season, she has been placed in ten of her twelve starts.
