Press Association —Copyright. Taumarunui, Last Night

A terrible tragedy resulting in the loss of three lives occurred about 9.30 last night on the main highway four miles north of Owhango, which is 14 miles south of Taumarunui. A motor car capsized over the bank and burst into flames, three men, being burned to death. The victims were: Roy Victor Bishop, Owhango, aged 34, single, employed as a roadman by th© Kaitieke County Council, driver and owner of the car. Gerald Flynn, farmer, Owhango, aged 51, single', a returned soldier. Charles William Farrell, farmer, Owhango, aged 46, a married returned soldier with six children. The. car, a small two-door sedan model, was returning from Taumarunui to Owhango when, after rounding a bend, it apparently swerved to the wrong side of the road, struck a low bank, ran along it for 20 or 30 yards, and capsized. With its wheels in the air a'bout 20 feet down a slopej from the road it burst into flames. There were no eye-witnesses of the accident, but two cars which were following arrived on the scene apparently ten minutes after the accident and found the car a blazing inferno. The heat was so intense that they could do nothing, and they went to a nearby farm tor assistance, returning with a farmer. They saw an arm protruding from a window of the car, which was still enveloped in flames and unapproachable. —— j
