WOOL STILL HIGH
SECOND NAPIER SALE.
JAPANESE QUIET
Advance Realised On Prices At Wellington. Press Association—Copyright. Napier, Last Night. Wool sold at the second sale of the season at Napier yesterday realised prices Id to l£d in advance of those ruling- at the last Napier sale in December, or id and better on those secured at Wellington last week. Bidding was particularly animated and no more than 31 bales out of a total offering of 30,370 bales were, passed. A feature of the selling was the little activity of Japan, which was practically out of the market. The Absence of Japanese competition was compensated for by active bidding on the part of Bradford, America and Canada. Top price of the sale was 23d for a line of Southdown i lambs’ wool. Wool showing quality I was eagerly sought after, prices ranging from 18?.d to 22d for best lines. Fine crossbred hoggets ranged from 18id to 21d, and even 22d for an extra quality line. Coarse crossbreds of low quality was keenly sought after, beating A lines by fully lid. Crutchings sold especially well, making up to 17£d, with average quality up to 16d. Cotted wool was in the boom to realise l<Bd. Locks were sold at the high level of lOd.
It was noticeable in numeft’ous clips that B grade sold better than. A grade by a margin of up to lid, while C grade was often better than A grade by id to id. Bidding for numerous lines, more particularly specialty lines, showed that buyers operated in most elastic limits in which bids frequently rose Id at a time.
