RAIN STOPS IN TIME.
Hawkes Bay Escapes Flood Danger.

If the heavy rain which fell on Thursday and Friday until the early hours of Saturday morning had continued for another 24 hours there probably would have been serious flooding of the Ngaruroro and Tutaekuri Rivers, entailing serious damage to farm lands at Taradale, Greenmeadows, Meeanee, and Pakowhai.
At Pupetapu the Tutaekuri River rose rapidly, but the cessation of the rain obviated the threatening danger. The waters got away njell through the Waitangi outlet, although the Ngaruroro shifted, its mouth about 200 yards along the beach. Minor flooding occurred near Clive, and water came over the road near Waitangi on Friday night, but quickly subsided at about 10 a.m. on Saturday without interference to traffic.
Rain was heavy generally throughout Hawke’s Bay on Friday, 1.04 inches being recorded at WJiana Whana, 1.12 at Maraetotara, -and 1.3 at Kereru. From Wednesday night to Friday morning 2.4 inches were recorded at Kereru.
Although heavy rain fell in in the back country the rise in the rivers was gradual, and the rain ceased .in time to avoid danger to stock or set-
