NEW RECORD.
Noel Ryan’s Remarkable Record. Remarkable form was shown by the former Olympic swimmer, Noel Ryan, when, at Manly Baths, he swam 220 yards in 2.18J —a new record for an Australian-born swimmer. The time is 2sec worse than the Australian record held by the American Maiolo Kalili and 2 2-ssec better than the Australian-born 220 yards record established by Godfrey Vockler in Melbourne in February, 1933.
Ryan had to concede 3sec to R. Biddulph, the 16-year-old Australian junior record holder, and it was only over the final 25 yards that Ryan gained the upper hand. It is believed that Biddulph’s time of 2.21 1-5 is a world record for a swimmer of his age (says the “Australasian”). Noel Crump, as an inter mediate swimmer (one under 17 on October 1 of the season of competition) set up a New Zealand inter mediate boys’ record of 2.22 2-5 at Auckland on January 9, 1934.
