MOA SKELETON.
Assembly Completed At Wanganui Museum. Wanganui, January 15. The third moa skeleton to be assembled from bones excavated at Makirikiri was completed by Mr G. Shepherd at the Wanganui Museum to-day and will be put on exhibition next week. This- latest skeleton is the second largest of the anomalopteryx parvus type, of which there are altogether four known species. It also is the second of its kind to be assembled in New Zealand, the other specimen being- in the Auckland Museum. This was found in a cave at Waikarcmoana, while the Wanganui one was found 21ft below earth level. Th ? species is said to be comparatively rare. The skeleton, which is about three feet high, will be placed alongside a specimen of the dinornis giganteus, nearly four times as high. This latter skeleton was also assembled from bones found at Makirikiri.
