TENANT BUILDINGS

ERECTION OF FLATS Popularity Of Detached Dwelling. When a modern set of flate w»s recently erected In the town no difficulty was met with in finding tenants! and according to a local estate agent there is a reasonable demand fo r this type of dwelling. However, inquiries made by a Central Press reporter seemed to indicate that with ample building elections available detached houses with a small plot of j ground! for a garden would continue in popularity.

While he had originally intended to construct flats he eventually abandoned the idea, stated a local re- 4 sident. He had inspected them in larger towns and had found that they

were quite a good investment l>u(< after full inquiries he had arrived at the cohclusion that to build them In Stratford on a large-sissed scale would | not be warranted. He was of thq opinion that people seeking a homo would sooner pay another two or three shillings a week and have the advantages of a small plot bt ground « for a garden and the greater privacy. Good building sections could be secured close to town and while such conditions existed It was not likely that there would be any extensive construction of flats. A an investment they appealed but not as a speculation, as it was considered that a buyer was more likely to consider a house than a block of flats. In the cost of construction there was not a great deal of difference as each individual flat had to be separated by a brick or other fireproof wall.

After stating that there had been a reasonable demand for flats a local estate agent remarked that the tendency in the smaller towns was tor people to own their homes.
